Introduction

This is a record of my participation in the exhibition “Taking on Taro Okamoto: Asai Yusuke and Fukuda Miran: Commemorating 100 years since the establishment of Kawasaki City and 25th anniversary of the museum’s opening” which will run from October 12, 2024 to January 13, 2025 at the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki. From July 9th to 30th, 2024, the museum was looking for volunteers to help create a mural by Asai Yusuke, which will be exhibited as part of the exhibition “Taking on Taro Okamoto: Asai Yusuke and Fukuda Miran: Commemorating 100 years since the establishment of Kawasaki City and 25th anniversary of the museum’s opening.” As this was a period when I had time to volunteer, I applied and participated for a total of 15 days.

Conclusion

Yusuke Asai volunteered at the Yokohama Museum of Art in 2019 for the “Meet the Collection – Art, People, and the Museum” event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Yokohama Museum of Art. I have also visited the production site several times, but this was my first time volunteering for a long period of time.

Various people gather to volunteer on Yusuke Asai’s work, including working adults on vacation, students on summer vacation, people from far away, and free spirits. The experience of working together with people I had never met before was very valuable and left me with many lessons to learn.

There will probably be more public productions and volunteer recruitment in the future, so I hope that anyone who is interested and can make the time will participate.
