Review
Color Scoper 50mm F2.5 is a standard L39 screw mount lens released by Cosina Voigtlander in 2002.
Like other color scope lenses, it is a very compact lens, one size smaller than the previously released NOKTON 50mm F1.5, and extremely portable. However, because the small lens barrel houses 7 lenses in 6 groups, it is heavy to hold.
The lens barrel is equipped with a large finger rest, making focusing operations very easy, and I feel that other color scopers should have a similar finger rest.
Both the front and back are beautifully blurred even when the aperture is wide open, and even though it’s f/2.5, the focus range is so thin that it’s impossible to shoot by eye. Compared to the old lenses, it gives a clear and pleasant depiction even when the aperture is wide open. I felt that the detail of the depiction increased when I stopped down. I was using it with a LEICA M8, which has a sensor smaller than 35mm full-frame, so I can’t evaluate the peripheral area.
This lens barrel has many parts in common with the Rollei Sonnar 40mm F2.8, which is believed to have been supplied with parts, and the hood is completely compatible.
Due to its mediocre specifications, it is rare to see it on the used market, perhaps because it did not sell well at the time of its release, and you can sometimes find it sold at a premium price.
With a focal length of 50mm, you can make a decent lens no matter who makes it, so I don’t think it’s worth buying at a premium price unless you’re really interested. It was buried among many 50mm lenses in my house and I ended up getting rid of it without using it much. I forgot to include the box when I sold it, so only the box remains in my house.
