Review
The 07 mount shield lens for the Pentax Q has a focal length of 3.2mm, which is equivalent to a standard focal length of 63mm for the Q and Q10, and 53mm for the Q7 and Q-S1 in 35mm format.
Unique lenses are lenses released to supplement the poor lens lineup, and are designed to be inexpensive. This lens is no exception, with a plastic mount, one lens, a fixed F9 aperture, and no mechanical shutter.
Looking at the image, it is by no means a bad lens, and I am impressed by what can be expressed with a single lens.
Unlike other unique lenses, it can only be used for pan focus, so once you attach it to the camera, all you have to do is press the shutter.
The shooting results change drastically depending on the shooting distance, so if you can understand the lens’s characteristics and control it, you will be able to express things that are only possible with this lens and a Pentax Q camera. This lens tests the photographer’s imagination and ingenuity.
It seems that no special consideration was given to image processing within the camera, and there is no difference in the results between Raw and JPG when shooting with this lens.
The Pentax Q series does not have a mechanical shutter on the camera side, so the unique lens series, including this lens, shoots using the sensor’s shutter.
As a similar project, the fisheye body cap lens BCL-0980 (9mm F8.0 Fisheye) released by OM Systems (formerly Olympus) is said to have a lens configuration of 4 groups and 5 elements with 2 aspherical lenses, and although it costs about 10,000 yen, it is made with a fair amount of sincerity. I still own this lens, and plan to post a review of it someday.
Fujifilm also has a lens with the same concept called “XM-FL,” but it has been selling at a premium price since it was discontinued, with a list price of about 10,000 yen. This is one example of the distortion of the used market these days.
