Review

1.Overview
The 07-mount shield lens for the Pentax Q has a focal length of 3.2mm, which, when converted to a 35mm equivalent, is a standard lens with a focal length of 63mm for the Q and Q10, and 53mm for the Q7 and Q-S1.
Unique lenses were released to supplement a Pentax camera’s limited lens lineup, and are designed to be affordable. This lens is no exception, with a simple design: a plastic mount, a single lens, a fixed f/9 aperture, and no mechanical shutter.
Since the Pentax Q series does not have a mechanical shutter on the camera itself, this lens and other unique lenses in the series use the sensor’s shutter for shooting.
2.Usability
Looking at the image quality of the 07-mount shield lens for the Pentax Q, it’s by no means a bad lens, and I’m impressed by what a single lens can achieve.
Unlike other unique lenses, it can only shoot in pan focus, so once you attach it to your camera and press the shutter, you’re limited to just pressing the shutter.
The results change drastically depending on the shooting distance, so once you understand the lens’s characteristics and master its controls, you’ll be able to achieve effects that are only possible with this lens and a Pentax Q camera. This lens will test the photographer’s imagination and ingenuity.
It seems that no special consideration has been given to in-camera image processing, and there is no difference in the results between Raw and JPG.
In a similar project, OM Systems (formerly Olympus) released the BCL-0980 (9mm f/8.0 Fisheye) fisheye body cap lens*1. It has a “four-group, five-element lens configuration with two aspherical lenses,” and although it costs around 10,000 yen, it is a fairly well-made lens. I still own this lens and plan to post a review of it sometime in the future.

Fujifilm also has a lens with the same concept, the “XM-FL,” but it has a negative impact on the used market, selling for a premium price after its original price of around ¥10,000 has been discontinued.
3.Summary
In conclusion, to sum up the 07 mount shield lens for Pentax Q, as of 2025, the used price is far more than the list price of 5,000 yen, but I do not think that the lens is worth the cost.
