My impression: “Almost permanently installed”
This room displays the Tavola Doria, which was exhibited in the “Leonardo da Vinci and the Battle of Anghiari Exhibition: Japan’s First Public Display of the Tavola Doria,” a nationwide tour in 2015.
The Battle of Anghiari is one of Da Vinci’s unfinished works, and records indicate that it was originally a large fresco. The fact that it remained unfinished for over half a century is very characteristic of Da Vinci. The Tavola Doria is a 16th-century oil painting depicting the central scene of The Battle of Anghiari, the “Scramble for the Standard.”
The Tavola Doria is currently housed in the Uffizi Gallery. Donated by the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum in 2012, it remained on display after a touring exhibition in 2015 and continues to be exhibited as of 2026. The details of the contract are unclear, but it can currently be viewed there.
It’s easy to walk past items displayed like this, as if they were permanent exhibits. However, since they are often returned to their owners suddenly, I always make sure to take a look whenever I visit.
