Hasselblad HC 35mm F3.5 is a wide-angle, 35.8mm focal length lens for Hasselblad H series cameras. Since it is an HC series, when used with medium format cameras H series, it covers sensor size up to 40.2 x 53.7mm, and the focal length is approximately 24mm.
This lens can be used with X1D, X1DII, 907X, and X2D via X H Lens Adapter or XH CONVERTER 0.8.

  • Focal length approximately 29mm when using X H Lens Adapter
  • Focal length 23mm when using XH CONVERTER 0.8

Due to the lens specifications of the HC 35mm, it is not possible to use x1.7 teleconversion with the Hasselblad H series and X series. The guard at the rear end of the lens is made to interfere with the teleconverter and cannot be physically installed. HCD 24mm, HCD 28mm, and zoom lenses 35-90mm, which are in the same wide-angle lens category, have similar guards and cannot be equipped with a teleconverter.

The lens I own is a FUJINON brand lens that I bought at a bargain price, so the shutter speed is 1/800. Additionally, autofocus (hereinafter referred to as AF) cannot be used even if an adapter for using a lens with the Hasselblad X series, X H Lens Adapter, or XH CONVERTER 0.8 is attached to the camera.
When I checked the condition of the lens after purchasing it, there was some balsam wear, but it can’t be helped since it’s a vintage item and the price is cheap.

When I checked the lens information on the X1DII, the firmware was 9.0.0 and the number of shutters was about 1000.
The MF feel is good, and you can use the EVF’s focus magnification function to shoot at the desired focus point without any problems.
Since I have an HCD35-90mm, I can often cover the focal length of 35mm with that camera, but I purchased it thinking that I could take full advantage of the performance of the XH CONVERTER 0.8 with the HC35mm.

When using the X H Lens Adapter, there are no particular problems even under backlight conditions, and the image output via Phocus is focused without disturbance to the periphery, and there is no visible vignetting. I found it to be good enough to use with a 44×33 sensor. Even when using XH CONVERTER 0.8, we were able to confirm that the image was resolved to the periphery without any distortion, and that there was no vignetting (including Phocus correction). Unlike the 35mm focal length of the HCD35-90, it covers the full 23mm focal length.

In addition, when this lens is used with the LEICA S Typ007, AF can be used, so major wide-angle lenses such as 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm can now be used with AF.

The lens configuration is a complex retrofocus type with 11 elements in 10 groups, and when checking the lens specifications, the lens performance is similar to the HC50mm 1 type, and there is likely to be a decrease in image quality at the periphery, and distortion is up to 2% on the outside. It can be seen that there is a certain degree. The HC50mm was renewed to improve image quality in the peripheral areas, but the HC35mm was not. Do you think there is no problem with the performance of the current lens considering the mainstream sensor size? , because the 35mm range of the new zoom HCD 35-90mm lens had sufficient performance? We can speculate, but we do not have official information.

The lens alone weighs 1kg, and if you add the converter (175g or 430g) and camera (766g), it becomes 2-2.2kg, which is among the lightest for an X1D-II with an HC lens, but the lens barrel feels large. It is larger and heavier than a mirrorless camera with a 35mm full-frame sensor.

AF support

For the orange dot lens, AF is available on the X1D,X1DII,907X and X2D, but it only works with the latest firmware 19.1.0, so if you have 18.0.0, you need to update the firmware. In fact, when I purchased the camera, the firmware was 18.0.0, so the AF did not work when I tried it. After purchasing the camera, I updated the firmware and was able to get the AF to work.
If you have firmware 17.0.0 or earlier, you cannot update the firmware because the firmware area is not enough for 19.1.0.
The AF speed when used with the X1D,X1DII,907X and X2D is not quite as fast as that of a professional SLR, but if you choose a high contrast area, the camera will focus without hesitation, which is easier to use than fast but confusing AF, and is sufficient for my needs.

About FUJINON lens

There are HC lenses from the Fujifilm brand SUPER EBC FUJINON that can be used with the HASSELBLAD HC camera, but only lenses with a maximum shutter speed of 1/800. Compared to the latest maximum shutter speed of 1/2000, the range of expression is narrower. Also, because the lens firmware is old, it is not possible to apply HC lens firmware 19.1.0, which is required to use autofocus (AF) on XCD mount cameras X1D, X1DII, 907X, and X2D.

Therefore, AF cannot be used even if it is attached to an XCD mount camera via two types of mount adapters, X H Lens Adapter, and XH CONVERTER 0.8.

Fuji Film brand HC lenses are not covered by Hasselblad’s repair support, and since Fuji Film no longer provides repair support, there is nothing that can be done in the event of a breakdown. Fuji Film brand H lenses are sold cheaply, but you need to be aware of this when purchasing.

If it is a Hasselblad brand HC lens, even old lenses can be repaired at Hasselblad for a fee.

Since HC lenses are manufactured by Fujifilm, a mount adapter (H MOUNT ADAPTER G) is also available for the Fujifilm GFX series, which has the same sensor size as the X1D, X1DII, 907X, and X2D. This is for MF (manual focus) only, but you can use not only the camera’s mechanical shutter but also the lens shutter.
