Hasselblad HCD 35-90mm F4-5.6 is a zoom lens for Hasselblad H series cameras that covers a focal length of 35mm to 90mm in 35mm format. When performing zoom or focus operations with an inner focus or inner zoom lens, the lens length does not change depending on the focal length or focus position.
Extension tubes H13, H26, and H52 can be used, but H1.7 teleconverters cannot be used.

Since it is an HCD lens series, the sensor size is optimized for a sensor with a size of 48 x 36 mm, and with a larger sensor size of 53.7 x 40.2 mm, the image circle of the lens is insufficient and the periphery will be cut off.
Lenses with orange dots have a lens shutter with a maximum speed of 1/2000, while lenses without a dot have a lens shutter with a maximum speed of 1/800.

This lens can be used with the X1D (4116 edtion), X1DII, X2D, and X907 via the X H Lens Adapter or XH CONVERTER 0.8. Depending on the adapter used, the focal length in 35mm format conversion will vary and is as follows. be.

  • When using the X H Lens Adapter, the focal length will be 28mm to 72mm.
  • When using XH CONVERTER 0.8, the focal length will be 23.3mm to 56mm.
  • When using an x0.8 converter, the image circle of the lens is insufficient and the edges are slightly vignetted, so the image processing software Phocus automatically crops the edges a little. You can check the entire image before cropping by selecting [Uncrop] from Phocus’s image menu.

This is the third HC,HCD lens I have purchased, and although it is used, it is almost new with only 3 shutters.
A new lens with an orange dot on the lens barrel, the maximum lens shutter speed is 1/2000, X H Lens Adapter, XH CONVERTER 0.8, and when firmware is 19.1.0, autofocus (hereinafter referred to as AF) can be used. I purchased it after confirming that it was possible.

The AF focusing speed is fast among HC,HCD lenses, and once you get the hang of the AF, the focusing accuracy is high and you can get the exact focus position you want. Since the minimum focusing distance is 65cm over the entire area, focal lengths of 50mm or longer give the impression that you can get close to the subject.
The lens alone weighs a hefty 1.4 kg, and the camera system weighs nearly 3 kg, but perhaps because it is well balanced when attached to the camera, it is not too difficult to use for long shooting sessions.

The lens comes with a nice hood, but I rarely use it during normal use because it has sufficient backlight resistance even without a hood. This backlight resistance and 1/2000 lens shutter make it useful for outdoor photography. The problem is that it is very large and can be very noticeable depending on where you carry it.

  • HTS 1.5 TILT AND SHIFT ADAPTER cannot be used.
  • Image circle does not cover medium format film (41.5 x 56mm).

AF support

For the orange dot lens, AF is available on the X1D,X1DII,907X and X2D, but it only works with the latest firmware 19.1.0, so if you have 18.0.0, you need to update the firmware. In fact, when I purchased the camera, the firmware was 18.0.0, so the AF did not work when I tried it. After purchasing the camera, I updated the firmware and was able to get the AF to work.
If you have firmware 17.0.0 or earlier, you cannot update the firmware because the firmware area is not enough for 19.1.0.
The AF speed when used with the X1D,X1DII,907X and X2D is not quite as fast as that of a professional SLR, but if you choose a high contrast area, the camera will focus without hesitation, which is easier to use than fast but confusing AF, and is sufficient for my needs.

  1. hi – thanks for all your input. How do you recognize an orange dot lens?

  2. Here is the answer to your question.
To distinguish by appearance, an orange square mark on the lens body is an orange dot lens.
I have added a photo of the orange dot mark to this page.
Functionally, the lenses are distinguished by a shutter speed of 1/2000 and firmware version 18.0 or later.
I do not think lenses with a shutter speed of 1/800 to be orange-dot lenses, even if the firmware is 18.0 or later.
