Report

To celebrate the completion of “Land of the Lustrous” and the release of the 13th volume, 12 original works by author Ichihara Haruko were displayed on the Superboard, an advertising display space in the passageway leading from the Tokyu Toyoko Line to the Denentoshi Line and Hanzomon Line.

Though they were printed, the large-scale posters were beautiful and impressive.

There are often large advertisements for anime and manga in Shibuya, so I try to go and see the works that interest me. As I mentioned in the photography section, since it’s a passageway, if you want to take pictures of only the works, it’s important to choose the time and the equipment carefully.

Filming Record

I arrived at the site just after 7am on Saturday, November 23rd, when it seemed relatively quiet, and took photos between people heading from the Toyoko and Fukutoshin lines to the Hanzomon and Denentoshi lines.

This is an aisle, so of course pedestrians have priority, so I refrained from taking photos when people were passing by, and took photos when they had passed. Since poor photography etiquette may lead to measures such as a ban on photography in this area, it is important to remember to behave in a way that does not disturb pedestrians when taking photos.

The works on display this time are composed of 3 works x 4 screens, so if the focal length of your photography equipment is around 28mm, it is better to take photos of each work one by one. When taking photos one by one, it is relatively easy to find a time when there are no pedestrians. It is easier to post-process the images if the distance from the works is consistent, so it is best to take photos based on the point where the distance from the works is the narrowest.

When taking pictures of three works at once, Superboard A-1 and A-2 have wide passageways and can be spaced apart from the exhibited works, so if you have a focal length of 21mm or less, you can fit all three works in the frame.
Superboard A-3 is a little more difficult to take pictures of because there is a pillar near the center of the work, but if you have a focal length of 16mm, you can fit all three works in the frame.
The last Superboard A-4 has the narrowest distance between the exhibit wall and the passage wall, making it the most difficult to take pictures of. In order to fit all three works in the frame at once, you need a focal length of 16mm or less, and 16mm was just about the limit in width.

If you have a smartphone with a focal length of 16mm or less and it is equipped with an ultra-wide-angle mode (iPhone 15 has a focal length of 13mm), you can fit all three works in one frame. Passersby can also use the function to erase unnecessary information on their smartphones.

As mentioned above, in order to take pictures with a regular digital camera, you need to prepare a wide-angle lens, which makes it a little more difficult to start taking pictures.
