1.Overview
The Leica Q2 is a compact digital camera released by Leica in 2019.
Detailed lens specifications are listed in the table, but the main specifications are as follows:
- 47.3MP, 35mm full-frame sensor
- SUMMILUX 28mm F1.7 lens
- 3.68M-dot OLED viewfinder
- Rear display 3.0-inch (fixed) 1.04M-dot
- Minimum shooting distance 0.17m in macro mode
- Battery BP-SCL4
- Filter diameter 49mm
A normal evolution of the Leica Q, there are no major changes other than the increased pixel count.
2.Usability
The body part has the same basic functions as the M10-R, except that it does not have a rangefinder, and the price including the Summilux lens that can get as close as 0.3m is quite a bargain if your photography needs fit.
My impression from using it is that the autofocus issue that was seen with the Leica Q has been experienced to some extent with the LEICA Q2, so you should not fully trust the autofocus and should shoot while checking the focus position with the EVF.
The EVF has the same number of pixels and the display panel has changed to OLED, but I did not feel that it has evolved significantly compared to the Leica Q viewfinder.
The EVF’s diopter adjustment dial has been improved, and when changing it, you push the operation dial on the button to change it, and push it back after changing it. This is a good improvement that prevents the diopter from being changed by mistake, but if you are going to improve it anyway, I think it would be smart to adjust it internally in the menu like the Hasselblad X2D.
As long as the same photographer continues to use it, the EVF diopter adjustment is done once and does not need to be changed repeatedly.
With the increase in pixel count to 47 megapixels, the Q2’s image cropping function has been expanded to three types: 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm. However, the results of cropping to a specified size are still recorded as JPEG images, and the method of recording Raw images at full size 28mm remains unchanged from the Leica Q.
The lens has an image stabilization mechanism, so camera shake is rarely an issue even with the high pixel count.
The battery has been changed to the BP-SCL4, which is shared with the Leica SL series, which is a good point, and the battery capacity is larger than the Leica Q’s BP-DC12, so the number of shots that can be taken has increased, which is desirable. However, the BP-SC series batteries are expensive to purchase because there are no compatible batteries.
3.Add Info.
The lens has been carried over from the Leica Q with almost the same specifications, and this Summilux 28mm F1.7 is of a quality that can withstand 47 megapixels.
The square lens hood released by LIM’S Design, the “LIM’S Aluminum LENS HOOD for LEICA Q2/Q”, is of the same quality as the original, and is worth the price, so I used this combination until I gave up my Q2.
The Leica LEICA Q2 Monochrome, designed specifically for monochrome cameras, was introduced with the Q2.
