Review

Perar 24mm is a compact wide-angle lens released by MS-Optics (Miyazaki Optical) in June 2014.
The lens format uses a triplet type with three glass beads.
The 24mm and 21mm, which are one of the three triplet-type lenses (21mm, 24mm, and 28mm), are made very thin, with a lens thickness of about 5mm.

Although it is a compact lens, there are no problems with operability, and focusing can be done smoothly by sliding the focus lever at the bottom of the lens barrel. The aperture is located at the front of the lens barrel, so it can be changed by turning the hood attached to it. There is no click stop on the aperture, so you need to visually check the exact aperture value.

Ms-optics compact lenses are recommended for use with cameras with small sensor sizes.
In the case of this lens, it is cropped to 36mm equivalent for APS-C and 48mm equivalent for Micro Four Thirds.
Thanks to cropping, the color cast that can be a problem with full-frame sensors is also eliminated.

Like other PERAR series lenses, it is a very thin lens that looks great on small cameras such as the LUMIX GM5.
What is particularly noteworthy is the outstanding quality of its depiction, and it is surprising that such a level of image quality can be obtained with just three simple lenses. I think you can get a feel for it by the depiction of young leaves even in the reduced image in the gallery.
Since it is a 3-element lens, perfect correction is not possible, and there is some pincushion distortion and a slight magenta color cast depending on the light beam angle when shooting a blue sky with a full-frame sensor camera at maximum aperture.
The shortest shooting distance is 0.65m, although it is not linked to the camera rangefinder, and it is possible to take closer shots by using the EVF.

The 24mm/F4 class lens, which is the spec for this lens, is leased from Leica and Voigtlander.
Compared to Leica’s Elmar 24mm/F3.4, the lens length is 1/8 with ELMAR (without hood) = 40.6mm and PERAR = 5.2mm, and the weight is 1/6 with ELMAR = 260g and PERAR = 40g. You can clearly see how compact this lens is.
