Review

The 25mm F1.1 is a PENTAX Q lens that uses the Sonnar lens format from MS-Optics (Miyazaki Optical). The focal length of the lens is 25mm, and when converted to 35mm format, it is as follows.

  • For Q/Q10 (1/2.3 type sensor), equivalent to 137.5 mm at 5.5 times.
  • For Q7/Q-S1 (1/1.7 type sensor), equivalent to 117.5 mm at 4.7 times.

A lens for Q mount and about the same size as Standard01. The focal length of the Standard01 is 8.5mm, so this lens is more than a telephoto lens, and the minimum focusing distance is 0.5m, so when converted to 35mm format, it can be said that it is a lens that allows you to get close, although it is the result of cropping.

The depiction when the aperture is wide open is quite fluffy, and since the focus is adjusted using the LCD on the back of the camera, it is difficult to get the peak of focus to the desired location. The focus peak display of the Pentax Q7 I own is vague and unreliable when shooting with this lens at its maximum aperture.

Since it’s a digital camera, I think it would be less time-consuming to at least take a few photos to insure it with focus bracketing and choose the best ones when developing them.
When photographing objects such as raindrops exposed to artificial lighting or sunlight, the surrounding areas will be blurred and false colors will appear, making it difficult to use depending on the shooting scene.
I think it’s good that it’s a medium-telephoto lens that can be attached to a Q camera and fit in one hand, so you can easily carry it around when you want to add a telephoto lens.

If I’m not mistaken, this lens is the only third-party lens with Q mount.
Considering the improvement in the performance of ultra-small sensors such as those used in smartphones, I wish that the Q mount would continue to work a little harder and provide a camera with a high-performance EVF. As mentioned above, it is impossible to take pictures using the rear LCD when using a bright lens.

It seems that a small number of prototypes of this lens were made for Micro Four Thirds with the same focal length of 25mm, but unfortunately they were not available. The only color variation is black.
