Review

SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN is a compact standard focal length single focal length lens that covers a 35mm full-frame sensor for mirrorless cameras released in 2019. As of 2024, it is available for Sony E and Leica L mounts.
Sigma is a company that doesn’t hesitate to supply cameras that have a large market share, so they may soon supply the EOS-R and NIKON-Z as well.

Sigma lenses only list specs, and the notation is confusing and easy to understand, making it easy to confuse lenses when minor changes or lenses with similar specs are released.
The official name of this lens is SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary, made by Sigma, focal length 45mm, aperture F value 2.8, DG=35mm full size, DN=short flange back for mirrorless cameras, Contemporary=optional. This is a cheap line lens.

When this lens was released in 2019, there were few AF lenses that could be used with the Leica L mount, so it was a valuable asset, and I liked its compact appearance, so I got it right after it was released. The lens barrel has a nice sharpness and doesn’t look cheap, which makes it seem more expensive than it is. As for depiction, as long as you are careful about camera shake, it produces depictions that are perfectly acceptable as a modern lens.
In the LEICA SL and LEICA T that I was using, the aperture ring on the lens was just a decoration, and I had to set the aperture value on the camera side. It may have improved with firmware updates, but that’s how it was at the time.

Even when attached to the LEICA SL, the balance of size is not so bad, but when attached to the LEICA T, it becomes a compact single focus camera, so it was useful as a walking camera. You can get a used lens for around 30,000 yen, so I think it’s worth having one.

Since then, this inexpensive line of lenses has been expanded to include nine lenses ranging from 19mm to 90mm, making it a strong presence among Sigma lenses.
There are 5 DG DN lenses with a unified aperture of F2 and 4 with a unified filter diameter of 55mm. The maximum aperture value of lenses with a uniform line of filter diameters differs from lens to lens, but I think that the sense of unity as a group by aligning the thickness of the lenses looks good when lined up in a moisture-proof storage.
