Review

LEICA CL typ7323 was released at the end of 2017 and is the last L-mount mirrorless camera equipped with an APS-C sensor as of 2024.

I was looking for a replacement for my LEICA T when it broke, and a camera store told me that a CL had arrived, so I traded it in and paid extra for it. I wasn’t looking for that much, but Sigma’s 18-50 DC DN came with it. I didn’t have high expectations for this lens, but it’s of Sigma quality, cheap, and takes good pictures.

At the time of purchase, I had already sold all the dedicated Leica TL and Leica SL lenses, so the lenses that can be used are SIGMA 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary, Panasonic LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 S-R2060 In addition to these two lenses, the rest are lenses that need to be used via a mount adapter.

The Leica CL certainly feels like it has evolved over the years since the Leica T, and I especially like the built-in EVF.
The body design feels like adding units for each function to the base body, and I think people will have different tastes because it’s a bit cluttered and doesn’t feel cohesive as a whole.
Once you get used to it, you won’t have to worry about it, since once you’ve added the necessary functions for shooting, it’s complete.
The APS-C size, 24-megapixel image sensor is thought to be the same as the TL2, and has sufficient resolution and image quality.

When I used the LEICA R lens VARIO ELMAR-R21-35ASPH., I saw the results and felt that I could not easily shoot with MF. The focus peak display is quite difficult to discern with a wide-angle lens, and the display gives the impression that it is accurate by about plus or minus 1 meter. It’s safe to stop down to around F5.6, but you’ll have trouble controlling the shutter speed when shooting night scenes.
Since the sensor size is APS-C, you will need a focal reducer adapter to use the LEICA-R lens, but L-mount APS-C cameras end with this CL, and Panasonic/SIGMA also uses APS-C. Since no one would go out of their way to release a camera like this, it is unlikely that such a product will ever be released.
The latest firmware is 4.1.

I purchased the genuine optional thumb rest and leather case.
The bottom lid of the leather case opens to allow access to the battery and memory card, but there is also a pocket to put the memory card in, which is a great feature for someone like me who is often forgetful.
