Review

1.Overview
The 01 Standard Prime for Pentax Q is a prime lens designed specifically for the Q.
Since the Pentax Q series does not have a mechanical shutter on the camera itself, the four AF-compatible lenses, including this one, are equipped with a leaf shutter inside a small lens housing.
The focal length is 8.5mm, which is equivalent to 47mm in 35mm format for the Q and Q10, and 39mm for the Q7 and Q-S1.
It weighs 37g, and the minimum focusing distance is 0.2m.
2.Usability
The 01 Standard Prime for the Pentax Q is in the so-called standard lens focal length range, and its compact camera and lens make it easy to carry around, making it a useful camera system for casual snapshots.
Unfiltered JPG images have quite a light color tone. If you don’t like this light tone, you can apply a filter or adjust the DNG file to bring the color closer to your liking. Naturally, DNG offers a wider range of adjustments.
As with the 08 WIDE ZOOM, there were several shots with noticeable ghosting in strong backlit conditions.
This may be due to camera processing, but the image quality isn’t significantly affected, even in dark places.
Distortion can be noticeable in scenes with straight lines in RAW images. However, JPG images are automatically corrected. A sample of the correction is shown below.
In the distant view at the top, the only noticeable difference is the curvature of the pillars at the edge of the frame, but caution is advised as distortion is much more noticeable in close-up shots.

A dedicated barnacle-type hood is sold separately; it is a 40.5mm screw-on hood that can be used with other lenses, but because it is designed for small sensor sizes, vignetting may occur if attached to a camera with a larger sensor.
3.Summary
In conclusion, to sum up the 01 Standard Prime for Pentax Q, if you use it expecting it to be a fixed focal length lens, you will be disappointed. Depending on the shooting situation, the image quality is not much different from that of the 02 Standard Zoom, so if it is expensive, it is not a lens worth going out of your way to get.
Specifications, considerations, etc.
When the camera was discontinued, I purchased the Orange and Sky colors from the color variations. The Lime color came with the camera. All the colors are vivid and beautiful, and I’d love to see them if there’s anyone brave enough to collect all 100 colors.
The following lens options are available:
- MH-RA40.5: Lens hood (attached to the Lime lens in the photo below)
- O-LC40.5: Front lens cap (40.5mm)
