Review
The third-generation Elmarit was released in 1978, and is a wide-angle lens with an R mount and a focal length of 35mm.
Like all previous Elmarits, the third-generation Elmarit produces solid, flawless images. In terms of image quality, there is not much difference between it and the second-generation Summicron-R 35mm, and there is no clear difference when looking at the results of taking the two together. The Elmarit’s maximum aperture is F=2.8, which is half a stop darker than the Summicron, but there will be almost no difference when used digitally.
The lens design looks similar to the second-generation Summicron-R 35mm, but it has almost the same lens barrel as the second-generation Summicron-R 50mm. The front lens is small and compact. If you are using it with a lightweight mirrorless camera, the third-generation Elmarit-R 35mm is also inexpensive, so it is a recommended lens for beginners to Leica SLR lenses.
The lens configuration is the same as the first-generation Elmarit, with 6 groups and 7 elements, and the weight has been reduced from the second-generation Elmarit to 300g, the same as the first-generation Elmarit. There are three types of mount shapes for lenses: 3-cam, R-cam, and ROM-equipped.
