Review
The third generation Elmarit has almost the same barrel as the second generation Zmicron R 50mm, but is shorter in length and has a smaller front element than the second generation Zmicron R 35mm, making it more compact. This lens barrel is more balanced when attached to a lightweight mirrorless camera.
The third generation lens, like the previous Elmarits, is solid and produces consistent images.
In terms of descriptive performance, there is not much difference between this lens and the later Zmicron, and even if you take the two lenses out and look at the other results, you will not notice a big difference.
Leica has released a similar lens with a half-step difference in brightness, but it is thought to appeal to the needs of users who want a lower cost by using the same lens barrel.
The 35mm and 90mm Emmalite lenses and the 50mm Zumikron have a clear price difference from the brighter lenses. The price difference is especially noticeable in the used market.
