Purpose

The Fisheye Elmarit 16mm is a lens for 35mm film cameras (for 35mm full-frame sensors), but 35mm lenses have a large image circle that allows for a wider shooting range, and can sometimes be used without problems on cameras with sensors larger than 35mm. Therefore, this time we tested it on a Hasselblad X-series camera, which has a 44mm x 33mm sensor, which is larger than 35mm.

Shooting result → ×

Looking at the shooting results with the Hasselblad X2D, the black areas in the shadow image are places where there is no shooting data, indicating that the image circle is not large enough for a medium format sensor.
Additionally, the black protrusions seen above and below the “vignetting on sunny days” are the result of the shadow of the hood being reflected.
When the unusable parts were cut out, approximately 76% of the captured images became usable.

This shows that the lens image circle of the Fisheye Elmarit is optimized for 35mm format, with no room for anything more.
It is likely that the same results would be obtained if used with Fujifilm’s GFX series, which has the same sensor size.

Connecting the camera and lens

To connect the LEICA FISH EYE ELMARIT R 16mm to the Hasselblad X2D, I use the NOVOFLEX Adapter Leica R-Lenses to Hasselblad X-Mount.

I have tried Fotodiox Pro’s “Lens Mount Adapter Compatible with Leica R Lenses to Hasselblad XCD-mount Cameras such as X1D 50c and X1D II 50c,” which has the same function, but I had to return it because some lenses could not be attached. I do not know if this is a problem with just the adapter I purchased, or with the product itself.

There are currently no lenses that cannot be attached to NOVOFLEX products.
