Review
LEICA T typ701 is a mirrorless camera equipped with Leica’s APS-C size sensor. The thin and compact body designed by Audi was easy to carry, and it was a good camera to use with genuine TL lenses and SL AF lenses, including third-party ones.
I owned the M-Adapter-T: 18771 and R-Adapter-T: 16076, which I purchased when I got the LEICA SL typ601, so I tried using a manual lens on the Leica T, but it was large at 3.7 inches and had 1.3 million pixels. When viewed on a high-pixel display, the results always appear to be in focus when zoomed out, so I was often disappointed when I enlarged them on my PC after shooting. I felt it was essential to check the focus by magnifying it when shooting.
When using R-Adapter-T: 16076, lens information can be recorded in EXIF for Leica R mount lenses with ROM terminals. With the latest firmware LEICA T v1.9 for the Leica T typ701, ROM lens information is recorded in Exif as shown below. If a non-ROM lens is used, “R-Adapter-L” will be displayed.

I would like to write about the problems when using a manual focus (hereinafter referred to as MF) lens via a mount adapter.
The Leica T series has a policy of eliminating touch panel operations and physical buttons on the body as much as possible, so there are only two dials that physically control the camera’s functions. The problem is that there are limits to how functions can be assigned to this dial. The assignment of functions to the physical dial when using an MF lens differs depending on the shooting mode. When using an MF lens, two modes are available: A mode (aperture priority) and M mode (manual).
When A mode is selected, the right dial function is fixed to ISO selection. Since the function of the left dial can be selected from the panel, I would like to assign it to magnifying the focus, but then I would have to use the touch panel to adjust the exposure, making it impossible to use the dial intuitively.
If you select M mode, the function of the right dial is fixed to shutter speed selection. The left dial allows you to select functions from the panel, but this too has the same dilemma as A mode.
Since this is a software specification, it would be nice if functions could be assigned freely to the two dials, but it’s a shame that this is not the case.
Personally, when using a MF lens, I don’t change the ISO very often so I can keep it fixed, so I think it would have been nice to be able to assign exposure compensation and focus magnification to the dial.
I thought the Leica T series was a large mount for APS-C, but it was also used as a full-size SL mount. This must have been the intended design.
Of course, the Leica T series can also be used with full-frame L lenses from Sigma and Panasonic, and there were no problems with their operation. For lenses with an aperture ring, no information is transmitted to the camera when the aperture ring is operated, so all settings are made from the camera.
With 16 million pixels, it has enough pixels and resolution for general purposes.
MOUNT CONVERTER MC-21 sold by Sigma, which converts Sigma SA mount and Canon EF mount to L-mount, cannot be used with Leica T series, Leica CL, and Leica SL.
If you mask the connection terminal, you can use it as a MF lens, but you cannot control the aperture.
Since I was using the M10 at the same time, I also used the EVF VISOFLEX, but it did not have a focus peak display function, and the magnification display also required assigning the function to the dial, since I usually assign the shutter speed and aperture to the dial. I rarely used it with the LEICA T because it was a pain to change the settings, and the EVF protruded from the compact body, making it difficult to store in a bag.
The strap was originally provided with a special plug-in type made of silicone, but it was a strange strap that was not easy to handle, so I bought the metal fittings for attaching the regular strap released by the Thums Up company, but a little while later I received the same one from Leica. Released cheaper. It seems like they realized after the release that the original strap was a useless item. I think it was unpopular with the testers, but I wonder if they didn’t use this strap?
Two LEICA T units were used: the standard black color and the limited edition purple color. The Purple model was retired due to an internal battery failure that made it impossible to record the date, the main board began to malfunction, and lines appeared on the LCD screen. It was useful as a camera for taking things, but unfortunately it cannot survive the failure of digital equipment.
The final firmware is 1.9, which is a change to support “Leica FOTOS”.
