1.Overview

The Cyber-shot W530 is a compact digital camera manufactured by Sony and released in 2011.

The camera’s main specifications are a 14.1 megapixel 1/2.3 size CCD sensor, a 4x zoom lens equivalent to 26mm to 104mm in 35mm format, and a resolution of 230,000 dots on the rear LCD.

It is compatible with both Memory Stick Duo and SD cards as recording media.

2.Usage

The W530 has all the buttons you need to take a picture on the back, so you won’t have any trouble operating it. The menu is simple and includes the bare minimum for taking pictures.

The images taken are quite good, with close-ups showing good contrast, while distant scenes are blurred due to the limitations of the sensor and lens, and image processing. Although it is a small sensor, the benefits of 14 megapixels are noticeable. Perhaps because of the CCD sensor, colors are good as long as you take pictures under sunny skies, and you will be satisfied with the results in normal use.

The only recording format is JPEG, and if you select 14 megapixels as the image size, you will have to wait a few seconds for recording to complete after shooting, probably because the camera’s processing chip is old. This directly leads to a poor shooting tempo, and I would like to check if this has been improved in later generations of cameras if I can find a cheap used camera.

3.Add Info.

The W530 has a higher-end model, the W570, which is essentially the same, with a 16.1 megapixel sensor and a slightly wider shooting range of 25mm to 125mm. It uses an expensive control chip, and if the processing speed is faster, it would be a big differentiator, but I have never touched the actual one, so I cannot say for sure.

In February 2011, new models were released in the premium compact WX series, which are differentiated by CMOS sensors and Sony G lenses. New models were also released in the slim TX series.

Looking at the list of cameras discontinued over the three years from 2010 to 2012, there are so many products that it’s dizzying. And the product hierarchy is not consistent, and it seems that they are released with whatever features they can, so the cluttered lineup feels like the last shining light of compact digital cameras.
