1.Overview

The XCD 45mm F3.5 was the first lens released in the X-mount lens group used in the X1D/X1DII/X907.

Until the release of the XCD 45mm F4P, it was a bundled lens for the X1D/X1DII.
Like other XCD lenses, it is equipped with a 1/2000 lens shutter.
The focal length when shooting is 45mm x 0.8 in 35mm equivalent, which is equivalent to a 36mm lens.

The lens is made up of 9 elements in 7 groups, which is a luxurious configuration for a standard lens, and follows the trend of the 2000s to use a concave lens at the front. Perhaps because there is room in the body, it is made only of spherical lenses with no aspherical lenses.

It is manufactured in Japan, and the manufacturer has not been disclosed. It is said to be manufactured by Nitto Optical.

2.Usability

The XCD 45mm F3.5 was a bundled lens with the Hasselblad X1D 4116 edition camera I purchased.
The 44x33mm sensor has sufficient resolution all the way to the corners, so I have no complaints about it for normal photography.
If I had to say one thing, it’s that the minimum shooting distance is 0.4m, so it’s a shame that you can’t take it a step further.

When I first heard the sound of the lens shutter, I was surprised by its unique sound.
When I’m shooting outside, people sometimes ask me about the shutter sound.

Despite the high original price, the used price is almost the same as the XCD 45mm F4P, so it can be said to be excellent in terms of cost performance.
However, when considering portability and shutter sound, I ended up choosing the XCD 45mm F4P, so I sold it.

3.Summary

In conclusion, to sum up the XCD 45mm F3.5, it is a lens whose usefulness has been abolished by the release of the XCD 45mm F4P, and when comparing the price, size and performance, there is no reason to buy this lens.

Specification and Competitor

If the image quality of the XCD 45mm F3.5 surpasses that of the XCD 45mm F4P, then there would be value in that, but unfortunately, both this lens and the XCD 45mm F4P have a certain amount of distortion when viewed alone. However, when using Phocus, both lenses are corrected and there are no problems. Therefore, there is almost no point in comparing the two in terms of image quality.

The shutter sound is louder than the XCD 21mm F4 and XCD 45mm F4P that I purchased later, probably because the shutter unit is an early model. However, it is quieter than the 1/2000 shutter sound of the H series lenses, which have larger shutter blades. And the latest XCD 28mmP is quieter, so I can feel the technological progress.
