Review

1．Overview

The Leica TL is a mirrorless camera with a 16MP APS-C sensor that was released in 2016.

The Leica TL’s features include an increased internal memory of 32GB compared to the Leica T, new body colors, and a change in exterior design.

The Leica T’s sharp edges are no longer sharp, and the corners have been chamfered for a milder impression.

The battery used is the BP-DC 13, as in the Leica T.

The last firmware for the Leica TL was version 2.4 in 2018, which was changed to support Leica FOTOS.

The camera’s name is thought to have been created in a hurry after the release of the LEICA SL, as the company wanted to add the L, which stands for the L-mount Alliance, the mount of Leica mirrorless cameras, to the series name of its L-mount APS-C sensor-equipped interchangeable lens cameras. The reason for this is that the official Leica TL catalog I have at the time of its release lists it as LEICA TL (Typ701), which uses the same type number as the LEICA T typ701.

2．Usage

I decided that the Leica T was not very useful as a mother ship for manual focus lenses.
The reason I bought the Leica TL was because of the new titanium body color that was added to the TL. As a fan of the Leica titanium color, it was a camera I couldn’t pass up, but I sold it when I was short on money, so I no longer have it.

but in summary, the internal memory of the Leica T is just a microSD card3, and there is a microSD slot inside the camera, and it can be upgraded.

3．Summary

To sum up the LEICA TL, it is a minor change version of the LEICA T, with no updates to the shooting functions and all of the poor operability.

Leica’s APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras ended with the TL2 and CL, released in 2017. In contrast, Sony, the originator of the APSC-C sensor mirrorless camera, continues to release cameras with APC-C sensors as of 2024.

There is thought to be a certain demand for APS-C size sensor cameras, so we hope that Panasonic or Sigma will introduce APS-C size sensors within the framework of the L-Mount Alliance.
