Review

1.Overview

The LUMIX S 20-60mm was released as a bundled lens for L-mount 35mm full-frame mirrorless cameras such as the LUMIX S5. It is an extremely lightweight zoom lens compatible with 35mm full-frame sensors.

The lens’s maximum aperture is F3.5 at 20mm and F5.6 at 60mm. The lens does not have an image stabilization mechanism.

The lens barrel has a simple design with only a zoom ring and focus ring. The filter diameter is 67mm and a dedicated hood is included.

One advantage it has over other lenses is that it is a 3x zoom lens, starting at 20mm at the wide-angle end and reaching 60mm at the telephoto end.

2.Usability

The LUMIX S 20-60mm is often sold as part of a bundle, so its specifications are minimal and its used price is particularly low.

The lens has an extendable barrel, typical of budget zoom lenses, with the focal length at 20mm being its shortest and at 60mm being its longest.

When used with the APS-C sensor cameras used for this sample photo, the LEICA T typ701 and LEICA CL typ7323, the peripheral edges of the lens are not used, so the images do not suffer from any noticeable distortion.

The shooting range is 30mm to 90mm in 35mm format equivalent, which is the same range as an older standard zoom lens, and the lens is light and compact, making it easy to handle.

Since it does not have image stabilization, cameras without built-in image stabilization, such as the SIGMA fp, LEICA SL typ601, LEICA T typ701, and LEICA CL typ7323, are more likely to experience camera shake in slightly darker conditions. In ISO Auto mode, you can reduce camera shake concerns by actively increasing the ISO sensitivity to ensure a fast shutter speed. However, this will likely result in a sacrifice in image quality.

The minimum focusing distance is 0.15m on the wide-angle side, making it relatively suitable for tabletop photography, but you’ll need to be careful of camera shake in dark stores.

3.Summary

In conclusion, to sum up the LUMIX S 20-60mm is a lightweight and compact zoom lens. It’s a bit of a lens, but it’s more practical to use with a camera that has high ISO or image stabilization.

Specifications, considerations, etc.

The LUMIX S 20-60mm does not have a significantly shorter focal length range than lenses designed specifically for APS-C sensors. Unlike lenses designed specifically for APS-C sensors, it has the advantage of being compatible with cameras equipped with 35mm full-frame sensors, so it is recommended for users of cameras equipped with APS-C sensors who are considering purchasing a camera with a 35mm full-frame sensor in the future.
