X2D XCD28P and GFX100 RF Specification Comparison

This page examines the differences between the FUJIFILM GFX100RF and the HASSELBLAD X2D + XCD28P.

Introduction

Fujifilm announced the GFX100RF, a digital camera with an integrated lens, on March 20, 2025, which will be released on April 10. I was curious about the difference in size when the smallest lens, the XCD28P, was attached to the Hasselblad X2D-100C that I usually use, so I processed the image to compare the sizes, and compared the functions of the GFX100RF based on the specifications announced.

The comparison results are as follows.

  • Dimensions: The GFX100RF is 23% smaller in front area and 28mm thinner in depth than the X2D+XCD28P.
  • Weight: The GFX100RF is 30% lighter than the X2D+XCD28P.
  • Price: GFX100RF = 830,000 yen, X2D+XCD28P = 1.4 million yen

These two cameras share almost all the main camera components, such as the sensor and viewfinder.

One of the big differences is that the GFX100RF is equipped with a video function, while the X2D is a still-image-only camera.

The startup time is expected to be about the same, as the X2D’s startup time feels just under one second, while the GFX100RF’s specifications say it’s 0.6 seconds.

We are looking forward to the release of a body of this camera size in Fujifilm’s GFX series of interchangeable lens medium-format digital cameras.

The problem is that the GFX series has the shutter on the body side, so if you convert the lens part of the GFX100RF, which is a lens shutter camera, to a G mount, it will become a camera with only a sensor shutter. It is expected that the current compactness cannot be maintained if a mechanical shutter is installed on the body.

Cameras with only a sensor shutter have the problem of rolling distortion, but it is thought that this can be solved with the advancement of sensor technology, so we may see an ultra-compact G-mount camera in the near future. At that time, it would be great if they could release a lineup of lenses with lens shutters for representative focal lengths and an adapter that allows Hasselblad H-series lenses to be used with autofocus at the same time.

I hope HASSELBLAD will compete by releasing an X3D with a small 35mm F4 lens and an even smaller body.

  • In the comparison images below, I prepared the X2D image myself, and the GFX100 RF images are taken from a Fujifilm publicity image for the front, and Digicam Watch for the top and side, and the scale of the images was adjusted by me.
  • The scale of the images has not been precisely adjusted, so please think of it as a guide only.
