Yusuke Asai “Daily Records ―Georgia, Istanbul”

On February 1, 2019, Yusuke Asai and Mugi Furukawa held a one-night-only special live performance at the Nadif Apartment in Ebisu.
Asai started to stick masking tape on the venue even before the audience took their seats. Furukawa quietly played the guitar. After Asai’s tape performance, the two began a friendly talk session. They talked about creative methods and sound and pictures.
When the talk got to a moderately lively point, Asai started to stick masking tape on the venue again. Furukawa also stood up and walked leisurely between the tapes while playing the guitar.
In the space where Furukawa’s guitar and clear vocals resonated, Asai spread masking tape in all directions. He stuck drawings he made during his visit to Europe and toured 13 countries in 2018 on the masking tape that was spread out like a spider’s web, decorating the exhibition venue. Asai’s masking tape creations continued beyond the audience seats and spread out to the outside of the building. They even spread onto the glass wall outside.
After tape was spread all over the venue, the works created at the “Ishida Hisashi (painter/filmmaker) x Asai Yusuke” event on January 19 were peeled off the walls, and Asai and Furukawa painted a huge mural out of flour on the vacant wall. The white paint made from flour shone in the darkness of the night with the lights in the room.
After the performance, the two signed autographs for the audience who had purchased merchandise.
The two-hour event, which lasted from 7:00 pm to just after 9:00 pm, was a very special and luxurious time and space.
The masking tape and pasted works in the exhibition room were collected, but the flour mural on the glass wall was available for viewing for a few days.
