Review

Pella 21mm F4.5 is a wide-angle lens that uses a triplet lens format from MS-Optics (Miyazaki Optical).
There are three types of propellers: 21mm, 24mm, and 28mm, and they are called the triplet brothers. In particular, the 24mm and 21mm lenses have a lens thickness of 5mm, which is very thin.

This lens is compact, making it compatible with small cameras such as the LUMIX GM5.
The depiction is clear because the lens is a triplet format with three elements. Cameras equipped with older 35mm full-frame sensors like the Leica M typ240 are likely to cause color cast at the periphery, similar to 21mm wide-angle lenses such as the New Russar+, Super Angulon, and CONTAX-G-Biogon. . One workaround would be to use a camera with the latest sensor, or a smaller sensor size such as APS-H Leica M8, APS-C Leica T series, or Micro Four Thirds.
The minimum shooting distance is 0.5m (closer than 0.8m will not work with the camera rangefinder), and if you use the EVF, you can shoot closer to the subject than with a camera linked to a rangefinder.

The 21mm/F4 class lens, which is the spec of this lens, is similar to Voigtlander’s 21mm-P type and Russia’s Rusal. Both lenses are quite compact, but as you can see from the comparison table, PERAR is the smallest compared to them.

Although it is a compact lens, there are no problems with operability, and focusing can be done smoothly by sliding the focus lever at the bottom of the lens barrel. The aperture is located at the front of the lens barrel, so it can be changed by turning the hood attached to it. There is no click stop on the aperture, so you need to visually check the scale to determine the exact aperture value.

When used with something other than a full-frame sensor camera, the focal length in 35mm format is cropped to 28mm equivalent for Leica M8’s APS-H, 31.5mm equivalent for APS-C, and 42mm equivalent for Micro Four Thirds.
