Review
Summicron R 35mm (Old) is a Leica R mount lens with a focal length of 35mm released in 1970.
Old has been released in 1 cam, 2 cam, and 3 cam. The hood is a rectangular 12509 that can accommodate a series 7 filter, and is also equipped with a rotation mechanism for the PL filter.
12509 is common to Elmarito R 28mm (first generation) and Elmarito R 35mm (second generation).
The lens has 9 elements in 7 groups and weighs 500g, which is heavier than the new model’s 430g.
I bought it on consignment at a sour shop in Ginza. It looks like an old wide-angle lens with a greatly curved front element. However, the release gap between the new model and the new model was only about 6 years, which is not that long, and it is assumed that this was around the time when the single-lens reflex camera format was becoming popular, and the product release interval was tight. The price of industrial products is proportional to their weight, and it is assumed that Old products cost more than New products because they are heavier. Since the image quality is already an old lens, there are imperfections in the periphery, which cannot be compared to the latest lenses.
When the hood is removed, there is a concave (also called tapered) hood fixing pin, which is similar in design to the Summilux R 50mm (first generation), Elmarito R 28mm (first generation), and Elmarito R 35mm (second generation).
The R lenses of this era had a unique uneven shape that was different from mass-produced industrial product designs. I feel that it has a good design, along with the Elmarito R 19mm (first generation), Elmarito R 24mm, and Super Angulon 21mm F3.4 and F4.
The old R Summicron 35mm released in 1970 had a lens configuration of 9 elements in 7 groups, while the COSINA/ZEISS DISTAGON 35mm/F2 uses 9 elements in 7 groups. The lens configuration diagram of the old Summicron is listed on page 51 of Quarterly Classic Camera No. 17 “Special feature: Leica’s single-lens reflex R lens vs. M lens” , so if you compare it, the Summicron R 35mm (Old) is It has a design in which the lenses are scattered throughout the lens barrel, and the Distagon (currently Milvus) 35mm F2 has a design in which the lenses are concentrated in the rear element, making it completely different. However, it is interesting that if you just look at the notation, they look the same.
